EIT Health back Inovus with €50,000 investment to aid launch of new surgical simulator
EIT Health, part of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), has announced Inovus as one of 10 winners of the 2018 Headstart Awards. The announcement came at the International Business Festival (IBF) following a gruelling selection process that started in April and culminated in 20 companies pitching for a share of €500,000. The Headstart funding is aimed at products that are in the later stages of development with a view to help accelerate their delivery to market. Inovus faced stiff competition but in the end their innovative, affordable, turnkey hysteroscopy simulator was the perfect fit for the competition and saw Inovus walk away with €50,000 to help commercialise the simulator.
Inovus CEO, Dr Elliot Street, had this to say about the award, “The EIT Headstart funding is a really well thought out funding stream. Often, we find funding like this is aimed at proof of concept in early stage products, but, as an SME who relies on a lean approach to product development, having the extra resources in the go to market phase of the product launch is going to be a massive help. We are extremely proud to have been awarded the funding especially in the face of such high calibre competition, all of whom I must congratulate on their innovations. This is the first time we have engaged with the EIT network and we are excited about the on-going support the network is able to offer us.”
EIT Health brings together leading healthcare companies across multiple industry sectors, public and private research centres, and top universities, to create a powerful network of partners with a clear mission: to accelerate entrepreneurship and innovation in healthy living and active ageing by providing Europe’s top talents with new opportunities and resources, for the benefit of all citizens.
